Geraldo Serrano, 71, is shot and killed.

A Roxbury resident, father of nine, and grandfather of 28, Serrano is a store clerk at Hermanos Unidos market at 728 Dudley Street in Uphams Corner, who refused to hand over his wallet to the two teenage robbers. One of them is arrested a few days later, pleads guilty to manslaughter and is sentenced to 15 years in prison. Another young man, allegedly the shooter, is arrested seven years later.
